my laundry helpers

Darien, Denisha, Growing-Up| 4 Comments »

Sometimes when the kids see me folding laundry, they would help out. Not that perfect but I mustn’t discourage them when they do that if not they would not help with house chores anymore.

Looking serious @ work

Then they decided to fool around

The outcome. I must say – not too bad!

my princess .. my little business-minded lady

When you see this, what was the first thing that comes to your mind? To me, its a cheap looking “made in china’ toy. We got a few of these free. The kids were having fun with it and all of a sudden Boy commented “Mommy it says made in china”. Then my little lady here said “Yea Mommy made in china things are very cheap. ‘They’ buy and sell it to us so expensive and make lots of money, then they become rich!” I was surprised. Words like these coming out from a 6 year old. Occasionally she would coax me into opening up a restaurant so that I can earn lots and lots of money. She really tickles me sometimes – what does a 6yo know about the business world but then we’ll never know huh since kids these days are so much more advance than when we were their age!

Darien’s School Concert 2010

Darien, Festivities, Special Occasions| No Comments »

Boy’s school concert was held on the 30th may 2010 at the Civic Centre. The concert started at 1030am and ended at 1230pm. This year his performance was joint with the other two classes. They did the 1970s “Rock Around The Clock”. Hehehehe I didn’t know he could swing like that.

Before it all started.

Can you spot him?

PP: Am I trendy?

The beauty industry has a lot more to explore and I see new advance products every other month. So many businesses are venturing into beauty and fashion line – the obvious reason is that its the income generator. With the ever changing trends these days, its really hard to keep up with the latest trend or more widely use term – style!

We are living in the city and not in the suburbs. So I would say – trend is rather important to keep abreast with the  current style. How do I keep up with the latest trend? Mainly I rely on fashion tips on the latest fashion industry news. I also keep up with shopping, beauty tips and celebrity lifestyle, too.

PP: For the needy

Coffee with TK| Comments Off on PP: For the needy

Its the time of the year again for education institutions to act as fundraisers for the needy. I have always believed in the practice of philanthropy to make this world a better place. My late grandmother is the best example of a philanthropist. She doesn’t miss a chance of being charitable to anyone. Sometimes to the extend of people saying that she’s being too ‘charitable’. To me, she’s a very loving and caring old lady. Whenever I see any fundraising organisations, I would think of her. She shed light into me when I was a very young girl. She teaches me to value what I have, to be empathetic towards people.

Its about time the kids understand what is fundraising so I brought them to my niece’s school fundraising “fund fair” earlier this month. They understand what is the reason and how its done. They had so much fun playing with the games and activities. Just a week ago, my girl brought back a notice from school. They are also going to have a funraising carnival in school sometime in July and she was already all excited and asked me what I was going to give or make. LOL. Another way of participating in a fundraiser is through magazine fundraising by getting supporters to purchase magazines subscriptions online. I don’t see why some people are not doing this. I am!

Chinese New Year 2010

Darien, Denisha, Festivities, Special Occasions| 4 Comments »

As usual every year, for lunch we’ll drop by my in-laws and dinner at my mom’s. This is what we had for dinner. Food fit for a whole village. Can you believe that this much food for 15 adults and 9 kids? Totally gastronomical!

From left to right: Fried Vermicelli, Roast Suckling Pig, Steam Whole Chicken, Fresh Scallops, Abalone Fish Maw with Broccoli.

From left to right: Abalone Fish Maw with Broccoli, Stir-fried Lotus Root with Sweet Peas and Carrots, Deep Fried Mince Meat and Stuffings, Marinated Jellyfish, Braised Duck and Mushrooms with FattChoy.

From left to right: Roast Suckling Pig and Fried Vermicelli.

One more dish is not on the table and that’s Sharks fin soup. Boy did his ‘Lion Dance Performance’. He told me “Mom when I grow up I want to join the lion dance”. I almost fell off my chair and fainted. 😛

CNY Day 1

The kids in traditional chinese costumes. My young nephew had a sour face cos he had a mouth full of ulcers … poor boy.

Our routine every year would be visiting my in-laws in the morning then off to a good friend’s parents place. The usual every year his parents place is filled with people, served buffet and lion dance performance. Princess was so terrified – not the lion dance but the ‘bald boy’ accompanying the lion. It puzzles me sometimes. She got all hysterical and weeped. When she knew the ‘bald boy’ was not there, she stopped immediately. Is that ‘boy’ really that scary. I don’t know. As far as I know in the future, she would not have a bald headed boyfriend for sure. Hahaha. Boy on the other hand was all excited with the lions. After lunch, we headed off to my mom’s place and to my aunt’s place in Cheras. Had dinner there and gossiped until past midnight.

Planning for a game of hide-and-seek.

Boy doing his lion dance performance AGAIN!

Boy is “Wong Fei Hung”.

CNY Day 2
Since the night before we went home late … we only woke up at noon. Met up my sis at K3K Benta at Subang for lunch. The serve very good fried chicken rice with special “santan” cabbage. Though a bit spicy, Princess loved it but I made sure the fats were all stripped off to reduce fat intake but she kept pestering me to let her take the fat. So unhealthy! Right after lunch, we headed to visit hub’s godfather in Kajang. On the way back, we dropped by my aunty’s place in Cheras again for chit-chat until past midnight.

With her favourite cousin sis

I was surprise to see Boy quietly sitting down at a corner to read. A really rare sight!! Not his usual active self.

Day 3
By the time we woke up it was almost noon. We had lunch at Gasing chicken rice and went over to my fourth uncle’s place for a couple of hours, visited hubs friends then finally to a friend’s sons birthday party.  No pictures taken for the day. Shucks!

Day 4
We woke up in time to go for Tenji Japanese Buffet with my parents and sis family, It was the first time the kids had buffet, The enjoyed choosing their own food. Boy had the most prawns and choc fondue. Princess had a bit of everything. When we arrived at 12pm, people were already lining up – LINING UP man! My personal opinion. The food was only so-so. Nothing much to rave about. The restaurant was having 50% discount for the month of Feb. We left the place when they CLOSE. Imagine, we sat there for a whole 4 hour .. eating and eating and eating. Scary eh??!!

Enjoying their seafood

Enjoying their dessert

Finally when they were too bored waiting for the adults to finish, stopped playing their nds and started searching for coconuts and played ice.

By the time we finished out lunch it was already 4pm. Too stuffed to take dinner.Ate a few bites for dinner and called it a night. Don’t ever wanna see Japanese food for the time being!!

Remaining days of the week
Visited some friends again. Played some card games and ginrummy. And that’s the end of the whole week break. It ended too quick – way too quick.

When the adults were too busy with ‘yee sang’. Guess who were the ones who played on their own???

The kids playing ginrummy – not with real money of course … with chocolates. Hehe. I’m really surprise. By looking at the adults play, they already know how to play without asking. Kids these days are definitely not from our time!

PP: I love online shopping

Coffee with TK| Comments Off on PP: I love online shopping

A few years back, I was a skeptical person when I comes to online shopping. I would be worried whether anyone will be able to forge my credit card and how much exposure when using it online. After much research and confidence throughout the years, now I simply love online shopping. The thing I don’t quite like bout online shopping is I can’t physically touch the product and the size bought is from estimation. Though it has its drawbacks but buying online saves time when it comes to parking the car, paying for parking fees, toll charges and at times sitting in the jam is really an annoying situation to be in!

One of my most favourite sites is Lou Lou’s Corner. It sells clothes, accessories, books, toys and gift ideas – its basically the site that can provide you with what you need. This site is not only for kids but they also have stuff for the grown-ups kitchen/home/bathroom accessories, gadgets and many many more. I love shopping gifts here , too. Their prices are affordable and sometimes they have special discounts and best buys for certain promotional items. To get the best bargain, I log in here quite often and the first thing  I do when I’m in here is to check out the “what’s new” section.

PP: Saving for a rainy day

Ever since I had kids, my most frequent website would be BabyCenter. I love going into this site because it gives me all information I need to know and expert advices on kids from babies onwards. Having kids have changed me 360 degrees. We’ve now got to think of future meaning we mustn’t simply spend unnecessarily – savings is the one thing in my mind always before I spend.

This is where baby coupons come in handy. It saves a lot especially when you are running on a tight budget every month. On a month basis I would budget a certain amount of money on necessity items and whatever remaining would go into the kids piggy banks! I love savings coupons cos I’m a bargain hunter!

PP: On the move

Coffee with TK| Comments Off on PP: On the move

I always believe in safest of kids when it comes to staircases and places around the house. When my kids were babies we used to fit baby gates around the house. What do I mean when I say “baby gates”? What I mean is I have at least two baby gates in the house – one to block the entrance of the staircase and the other to block the kitchen especially its one of the most dangerous places in a home. Some houses staircase is built differently. Some are steep and narrow whereas some wide. These staircases are dangerous and if I’d known anyone’s home with these kinds of staircase, I would strongly recommend them to use the stairway gate. And I would definitely not leave my kids safety to chances especially when they are kids on the move all the time!

Its a pity I haven’t been using a safety gate ever-since my kids know how to detach it when they were barely 3! Since then, the gate was passed-on to my brother. Sometimes I wonder whether it was the quality of the gate that made it easy for the kids to detach. I would have gotten the gate from KidSafeInc as I know they are well-known for their unbeatable prices and remarkable quality.

PP: Shrinking bills

Currently there are many cell phone plans in the market – all comparably competitive. I have been thinking of changing my cell phone plan for the longest time. I’ve been scouting around for the best plan that can save me on my phone calls, videos calls and internet data usage calls – basically a plan that can save me money on overall charges. My company allows claim on cell phone bills. So, I’ve got to get the best plan both for the benefit of my company and myself. I have been making cell phone plans comparison and I’m glad I did cos I’ve made the wisest choice by adopting this new plan I’m using and it gives savings on my future bills.

Speaking  of bills, since the company’s been spending a lot on entertainment and traveling, we have applied for the small business credit card. It definitely saves time and hassle-free and best of all it has a much lower interest rate.
